Hello and Welcome to Day 2 of the Start A Blog Free Email Course.
To be honest, determining what to blog about can be challenging and overwhelming at first, but I promise that it isn’t so long as you pay attention to today’s lesson.
This is a free tool that you can use to create the structure of what you want to blog about.
I used this tool to organise my blog, and it was incredibly helpful. Count it as a way to see how you want to structure your topics and subtopics.
It will help you start organising your blog right away.
With this free blog planning tool, you’ll be able to brainstorm different topic and category ideas so that you can better plan for your blog.
I definitely recommend downloading that planning tool and planning your blog right away :).

How to decide what you should blog about (your “niche”).
When it comes to what to blog about, there are two things to keep in mind:
You can either blog as an individual or as a part of a business or company.
If your blog is a part of a business or company, then you can blog about your products or services so that you can promote, sell, or create more awareness around your business.
But, if you’re solo blogger or individual,
I always recommend creating a blog around a topic that you’re passionate about, that you are an expert in, or that you like.
Ask yourself these questions:
- What are my hobbies?
- What would I like to teach?
- What am I good at or an expert in?
- Do I love to travel?
Did any of the questions above lead you to an idea?
View it this way:
Maybe you’re an expert or know a lot about crafting, sewing, fashion, shoes, hair, accounting, bookkeeping, or organising. I’m sure there are many people out there that would love to read about your crafts, creative ideas, organisation hacks, etc./
Perhaps you like to travel. You could start documenting your journeys and share those that you’ve already taken to inspire others to do so.
You can even blog about several topics in different categories, or you can blog about one specific thing like organisation, for example.
I know of someone who blogs about succulents I can only imagine, and she makes 5 to 6 figures out of it per month!
So yes, your blog can be about anything and everything. It’s entirely up to you!
Here are some examples of blog topic ideas.
The list doesn’t end here either; choose one or pick anything else that you have in mind. The options are endless!

So remember what I said earlier I always recommend creating a blog around a topic that you are passionate about, that you’re an expert in, or that you like.
So again, ask yourself these questions:
- What are my hobbies?
- What would I like to teach?
- What am I good at or an expert in?
- Do I love to travel?
Here are some common pitfalls to avoid when choosing what to blog about:
I, of course, understand that you may have some fears that could hold you back, and that’s what I’m about to address
1. What if I’m not passionate about anything or perfect at something?
Progress is better than perfection. It’s absolutely normal to feel like you aren’t good enough to talk as an authority about your passion… I can tell you that webloggers who have been at it long enough have the same fears and the same feeling that others are better than you. But, all that is in your head.
In blogging it’s more about learning and sharing with the people behind you, the people needing one more step to get to where you are. The perfect person for this is you. So, don’t let the fear of perfection hold you back – share whatever you know, and get better by learning.
KEY POINT: You don’t need to be an expert, you don’t need to have any special skill or degree surrounding the topic, and you don’t need to be extremely passionate about it from day one.
What you do need is to simply be interested in discussing the topic, learning more about it, and sharing what you know with others. That interest is going to fuel you through the initial months as you write your first posts and get more and more educated about your field.
2. What if I’m not good at writing?
This was my first fear when I was starting my blog. I was so worried about my grammar and writing since English is my second language.
So I wrote to one main blogger about that fear and here is what he said: don’t let the fear of grammar mistakes hold you back from what you have to share with the world: just get started and look for ways to improve your English.
That’s how I gained my confidence back. I immediately started researching how to improve my grammar and the first thing was a free tool called Grammarly. This helped to proofread and edit my articles.
Once my blog started making some money, I hired a proofreader that I use up to now. So, my work is to put what I want others to learn and sent it to be edited by a proofreader.
If you aren’t so confident in your writing skills, you can do the same: get the Grammarly app, get this course on how to become a good writer, and consider using a proofreader once you’re ready.
Don’t waste time – commit yourself to figuring out what you want to blog about today!
Do you have any ideas? If you don’t have a clear idea, have some coffee and give it some deep thought. This is very important, so you don’t want to rush this step.
If you would like some feedback, you can email some of the ideas you have in mind and I can help you brainstorm.
