I love checking in with myself. Do you check in with yourself?
In the first week of every new month, there are a few things I must do.
#1
First, I fill in my budget sheet (I use Google Sheets) with what has been happening financially in the past month.
I include all the details of how I spent money and what I bought. This should be exact, not guesswork!
Then I make sure all the bills for the coming month are automated, as well as contributions to my emergency fund and other saving accounts.
I note what I need to buy this month, and go through my subscriptions to see if I still need them all.
As tiresome as this might seem, I think it’s a good thing to do.
Last month, I found I hadn’t used my Audible subscription for three months and was still charged, so I paused it since I don’t feel in a position to use it yet!
Then I found out that Netflix has an option to downgrade depending on how many devices one uses. How cool is that!
For all those years I paid extra pennies for nothing! So yes, checking through my finances has been super therapeutic.

Then the next thing I do is check in on my personal development journey.
Every month I pick one topic to learn more about. For instance, one month I pick habits, then the following month, I choose overthinking, and so on.
At the end of the month, I analyse what has improved. Have I made any progress, or am I still the same person? I’ve realised it’s very easy for us to live day in, day out without making any progress at all!
This is why I check in with myself every month n to scan what has been happening!

Finally, I set goals for my work and personal life. This includes scheduled appointments (doctors, hair, nail and so on) and Choosing a book to read.
I read one book every month, and since it can be hard to read sometimes I use a trick I learned from Jim Kwik: read 10 – 20 pages a day.
It’s a great strategy, to be honest, and it works. If you get lazy about reading, make sure you try that strategy.
Have I inspired you in any way? Please, let me know in the comment below and tell me the one thing you must do at the beginning of every month.
